In February 2005 I had the great good fortune to visit some friends who have
moved to Australia. It was raining when I left the UK and it was raining when I
arrived 'down under'. Warmer rain though. I spent most of my time in the
Sydney area, but also hired a car for a week and travelled around New South
Wales. I only saw kangaroos and koalas in zoos, despite road signs warning about
them. Fortunately I didn't see too many spider either. Nasty things Australian
spiders.
The highlight of the trip was probably catching the ferry from McMahons
Point, where my friends live, to Circular Quay. Although it only takes 10
minutes it must be one of the most beautiful journeys in the world.
