| St Benoit is a
small town, not much more than a village in fact, situated on a
horseshoe shaped bend in the river Portefeuille in the French department
of Indre. Thanks to some very good (and kind!) friends who have a
small cottage near to the town I was able to spend just over a week in
the area in August 2003. I drove down from Paris on the very last day of
a heat wave that had lasted for several weeks, once I arrived the
weather broke and the days were largely cloudy with some occasional rain.
This was a blessing for the French who had been suffering in the heat,
and for the farmers needing rain, but it wasn't quite what I had in mind
when I arranged the trip.
