Week 43: Chester

Filed under: Uncategorized — sunsworth @ 10:38 pm

The weather forecast for Sunday predicted mist and fog in the North West of England, and that’s exactly what I woke up to. The first thought was where to go to in order to get some reasonable photographs and after a few minutes of indecision I decided to go to somewhere with a photogenic river, and so off I went to Chester keeping my fingers crossed that it would still be foggy when I arrived. The fog did hold, and I had a much more productive week than the previous one!

Main

This one picket itself as the main. Taken from a footbridge over the River Dee, the boat is taking tourists on a site seeing trip on a day when it’s difficult to see anything.

Another fog bound view of the river. These men were fishing, for what I’m not sure, and they didn’t seem to have caught anything – but I suspect fishing was just an excuse to get out of the house.

Slightly further down river the fog was giving a wonderful soft glow to the most common place of scenes. I’d borrowed a couple of Geebee’s swans to add a little interest. I hope the postman managed to get the parcel through his letterbox when I posted them back at the end of the day.

Chester attracts a lot of cyclists and these three, while obviously not in the first bloom of youth, were obviously enthusiastic when it came to discussing hardware.

By now the fog had lifted and it was approaching lunchtime, so I strolled up these steps to find a pub and have something to eat. Autumn colours at their best – that’s the photograph, not the lunch.

Walking to the pub I noticed that someone had left a traditional Australian marker pointing the way. Fortunately I had no intention of drinking Fosters.

So onto the pub, the wonderful Albion. Unlike many pubs in the UK this one has retained the warren of small rooms that was once the norm. A couple of pints, a hearty lunch, and the world is a wonderful place.

And finally a slow meander back to the car. No fog, but I was content after a productive day. Walking though a park I noticed this graffiti covered statue – ok, ‘covered’ is a bit strong.
